This month, we’ll be hanging out with Hui Ho‘omalu as they celebrate National Foster Care Month. We have some exciting things to talk about, and hope that these stories will help you better understand the many challenges and triumphs your peers face every day.

What better way to kick off the first day in May than sign waving for National Foster Care Month! Erica Owan, a sophomore at Kaua‘i High School, helped organized the sign waving event.

Right on the heels of Governor Abercrombie signing a proclamation recognizing May as National Foster Care Month, Partners in Development Foundation (PIDF) was awarded a contract from the State of Hawai‘i Department of Human Services (DHS) to continue to recruit, train, assess and provide support services statewide to the children and families in foster care under the Department, through its Hui Ho‘omalu program.

Just a little over an hour ago, Governor Abercrombie signed a proclamation recognizing May 2012 as National Foster Care Month.

May is National Foster Care Month. It is a time to bring attention to the needs of the 1,200 children in foster care in Hawaii.

May is a perfect time for honoring the contributions of resource families and organizations who are making a difference in the lives of children and youth in foster care.

To celebrate the month of May 2009 as National Foster Care Month, Partners in Development Foundation, Kokua ‘Ohana, Hui Ho‘omalu, and its partnering organizations of the “Foster Care Training Committee” collaborated with the management of Windward Mall to honor our foster youth and resource families.
