Dennis Matsuda

Site Manager - N. Kohala

A lifelong resident of Kohala, Dennis resides in Kapaau with wife Lehua and grandsons Keoni and Onipa‘a. He has recently retired from the County of Hawai‘i after 33 years in the Parks and Recreation Department. He served as a Recreation director in Kohala for 11 years and as District Supervisor for the N/S Kohala District for 22 years. He is a graduate of Kohala High School and has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Hawai‘i in Recreational Leadership.

He has worked on many community boards such as the Waimea YMCA, North Kohala Resource Center, Kohala Drug Awareness Group, Kamehameha Day Celebration Committee, Kohala Community Athletic Association, Kohala Chargers Pop Warner Association, Kohala Mustangs Little League, Kohala Reunion Committee, Kohala Intergenerational Center Board, and the Hawaii Recreation and Parks Association.

He has served as officers in and a member of these organizations in Kohala; the Kohala Okinawa Kenjin Kai Club, the Kohala Golf Club, the Kohala Trollers Club, the Kohala Casting Club, the Kohala Jr. Golf Club, and the North Kohala Officiating Assoc.

His work experience also includes working 4 summers in the Kohala Sugar Company, coaching baseball at Kohala High School, working at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and presently works for Partners In Development under the Ka Hana No‘eau Program.

Some of his interests are fishing, hunting, cooking, helping out in the community, and playing with his grandchildren.
His major goal in life is to leave with the satisfaction of making his community a better place, and providing the best opportunity for his family to succeed and lead a happy life.
