Michael Frailey

Photography & Videography Mentor- North Kohala

Mike Frailey is a North Kohala resident on the Hawaiʻi. Mike was born and lived in Viet Nam until age 9, when he was adopted by an American family at the end of the Viet Nam war in April, 1975. He grew up in a rural Missouri town then left to serve in the military.

After gaining military training in electronic and radar systems, he joined Xerox Corporation where he spent 25 years in technical support, systems analysis, and sales. Mike holds Bachelor degrees in Computer Information Systems (Regis University- Denver, Co) and Psychology (University of Hawaii-Hilo). He also has computer professional certifications in A+ and Network+.

While working in Denver, CO, Mike met a local Kohala girl, Laura (Melnik). They were able to transfer to Hawaiʻi in 2004 and have lived in Kohala for the past 6 years. In 2013, Mike decided to leave his corporate career to work with youths in the North Kohala community.
Currently, Mike is a mentor for the photography and videography mentorship with Ka Hana Noʻeau based at Kohala High School. He is a part time teacher with UPLINK at Kohala Middle School. Mike also works with Kohala Unupaʻa and volunteers as a mentor with Boys to Men Hawaiʻi at Kohala Middle School.
Mike is a passionate photographer with over 100,000 photos in his library. He is a filmmaker working on films for community organizations to document their programs and share their passion with the world.
