Preschool Families Treated to Sesame Street Live June 24, 2010

The keiki and families of PIDF’s Ka Pa‘alana Traveling Preschool were treated to a very special event on June 17. “Sesame Street Live! When Elmo Grows Up” was the event, and seeing all the Sesame Street characters onstage was the treat!

Excitement and curiosity was in the air as nearly 200 children and parents made their way into the Neal Blaisdell Center Concert Hall. For many of these families, it was their very first time in a concert hall and to experience a live theatrical performance. Everyone eagerly made their way to their seats, and soon the house lights dimmed, and the stage lit up. But that wasn’t the only thing that lit up—the faces of the keiki and their caregivers were as bright as those stage lights when the show began! All eyes were fixed on Big Bird, Prairie Dawn, Mr. Noodle, and the whole gang; and of course, the star of the show, Elmo!

The Ka Pa‘alana teachers and staff got a kick out of seeing the children so engaged in the show. Many keiki were on their feet for most of the time, dancing, singing, and moving with the actors. As for the adults, they too were mesmerized by it all. Many also caught the message of the show, which was that you can achieve your dreams when you set your mind to it. Hopefully, they will take this to heart and communicate it to their children in the years to come as they look back on this very special performance.
