PIDF Employee Rick Kang Featured in Rotary Club Bulletin May 2, 2012
PIDF employee Rick Kang is featured in a Mililani Rotary Club Bulletin with discussions on his role as a family liaison for our Hui Ho’omalu foster care recruitment program.
A portion of the story follows:
“Creating a Better Future for
Hawai’i’s Children in Foster Care”
Rick Kang is a family liaison with Partners in Development Foundation Hui Ho’omalu Foster Care Program. He recruits and lends licensing support to families who have the heart and means to become a Resource Caregiver (foster parent).
Rick earned his bachelor’s degree in Hawaiian Pacific Studies at the University of Hawaii West Oahu and is a state certified substance abuse counselor. He has a strong passion for the perpetuation of the native Hawaiian culture and the betterment of its peoples.
Rick finds great reward in helping others find freedom from their dependence to drugs and alcohol and seeing them rebuild a positive relationship with family and community. Rick’s experience as an adoptive parent of four girls and as a substance abuse counselor provides him a wider perspective on issues surrounding foster care. It also serves as a strong motivator for him to make a positive impact in the lives of our keiki.
Partners in Development creates and implements programs to address the needs of at-risk groups within the Hawaiian community… Applying innovative yet time-tested approaches to assisting foster families and homeless communities, and teaching new informational technologies, Partners in Development seeks to create a climate of caring, knowledge and support that will reach far into the future of Hawai‘i.
