Kamehameha Schools Trustee Micah Kane said at his investiture, “The partnership is more important than the partners.” This maxim is especially true for service providers working together in the spirit of laulima (cooperation) while helping families in need.

On September 3, 2009, Ka Pa‘alana staff arrived at Kea‘au Beach for preschool and found out that one of their participating families had lost all their belongings in an accidental fire at their camp the day before. As a result, many hands worked together to give what they could to ease the stress and trauma that this family was experiencing. Though the losses were unfortunate, the blessings that were gained demonstrated how much aloha exists among neighbors, service providers, and families.
