ABOUT
The purpose of the Tūtū and Me Home Visiting Program & the Caregiver Education programs is to offer support to caregivers as they are their keiki's first and foremost teacher. We believe that a strong ho‘omaka (beginning) of keiki begins with a strong kahua (foundation) of their caregiver.
The Home Visiting and Caregiver Education programs are available to caregivers with keiki ages birth to five years old on Hawaiʻi Island as well as select Tūtū and Me Traveling Preschool sites throughout the state.
These caregiver support programs utilize the Naʻu Ke Kuleana curriculum, uniquely designed using Native Hawaiian manaʻo. While there are many styles of parenting, relationships between parent and child, and different personalities of children, the Naʻu Ke Kuleana curriculum is used as a guide for Home Visiting and Caregiver Education Program caregivers to understand and perceive their role and kuleana.
Like an a‘a (root system), these are the four Hawaiian values that the Naʻu Ke Kuleana curriculum is rooted within the Home Visiting and Caregiver Education programs:
Kuleana
Empowering caregivers with the responsibility and privilege of raising keiki
Mālama
Supporting caregivers as they navigate the best path for their ʻohana
Aloha
Providing caregivers with tools that strengthen their relationship with their keiki
ʻIke
Teaching caregivers how to understand the development of their keiki
The Tūtū and Me Home Visiting and Caregiver Education programs focus on "you first," as we believe you (caregivers) are the most important piece of keiki's development.
As part of the Home Visiting and Caregiver Education Program, caregivers learn: Na wai ke kuleana? For whom is the privilege/obligation? Naʻu. Mine.
Along with unconditional aloha, Na'u Ke Kuleana reminds caregivers of their privilege and kuleana to guide and teach keiki at the right time, in the right place, for the right reason, in the right manner. This is the obligation of privilege.
