Ke Ao Nei at Waimanalo March 22, 2010
The Tech Together: Ke Ao Nei Program recently concluded two classes with 54 sixth grade students at Waimanalo Elementary and Intermediate School. A special modified program was designed to fit 50 minutes of daily instruction over ten days, with classes beginning on February 19th. Teachers Dawn Shin and Kurt Kmett worked with each student to cover concepts in energy transformation, energy use, and conservation, with hands-on projects using renewable energy such as hydroelectric power, wind power, and biofuel. Each student was able to build their own solar oven and solar powered cars. Classes concluded on March 10, 2010 with a discussion highlighting careers and an ‘ohana night where students shared the concepts learned with family members.
