Kama‘ehu student participants continue to live out the value of po‘okela March 3, 2011

Ka Pa‘alana’s Kama‘ehu Youth Mentoring staff have been very proud of their student participants’ academic achievements during the 2010 – 2011 school year. This past month brought even more great news as several students were recognized for their outstanding achievements.

  • On February 9, 2011, Diane S. (6th grade) and Paul F. (7th grade) from Kapolei Middle School (KMS) received personal invitations to attend a “Showcase of Excellence” event at the KMS Cultural Center on February 15, 2011. The event served to honor both students and their parents, and displayed each student’s work or projects. Congratulations to Diane and Paul!
  • On February 14, 2011, Karita Luter a 4th grader at Barber’s Point Elementary School was presented with a “Student of the Week” award certificate. The award recognizes students who show perseverance in everything they do and recipients are chosen by their teachers. Well Done Karita!
  • Finally, on February 15, 2011, Keaulana Timbreza-Dano received the “Sir Issac Newton Award” from the STARBASE Department of Defense Program. The STARBASE program is held once a week for a 5-week period. Keaulana’s mom and dad attended the program along with aunty Sheree and they were able to see Keaulana and her classmates launch rockets that they had built during the program. The students that attend this program all receive certificates of completion but only two receive actual awards. For this class there were three awards given, one for 1st place and two for 2nd place. Keaulana received a 2nd place award for having acquired the most amount of knowledge while attending the STARBASE-ATLANTIS program. Congratulations “ASTRO”!

There are only a few months left in the 2010 – 2011 school year, but judging by the frequency of students receiving recognition for academic achievement, those remaining months are sure to be filled with more awards and certificates for our high achievers. Way to live out the value of po‘okela!
