Ka Pa‘alana staff present at the 2011 Hawai‘i Association for the Education of Young Children (HAEYC) Conference October 11, 2011

On October 8, 2011, Pua Tandal, Native Hawaiian Cultural Specialist/Teacher for ‘Ike No‘eau, and Jin Chang, Co-Program Manager for Ka Pa‘alana, presented the programs’ curricular approaches at the annual Hawai‘i Association for the Education of Young Children (HAEYC) conference. The one and a half hour session focused on how to use a process framework to create culturally-rich math and science activities. Participants were given an opportunity to use a framework to research Hawaiian cultural practices and traditions, and then to create an activity that would meet one or more of the Hawai‘i Preschool Content Standards (HPCS) in math and/or science. The session ended with several drawings for Tūtū and Me books.
