KA PA‘ALANA TRAVELING PRESCHOOL HONORED BY HONOLULU CITY COUNCIL TOMORROW

Honolulu – Partners in Development Foundation’s Ka Pa‘alana Traveling Preschool, which serves O‘ahu’s homeless keiki, will be honored for its commitment to the community on Wednesday, August 7th at 9:00 a.m. at the Honolulu City Council meeting held in the Student Center at Leeward Community College.

“The traveling preschool is really a unique opportunity to help our keiki and their caregivers who otherwise cannot access or afford quality preschool,” said Council Member Kymberly Marcos Pine (‘Ewa, ‘Ewa Beach, Kapolei, Makakilo, Kalaeloa, Honokai Hale, Ko Olina, Nānākuli, Mā‘ili, Wai‘anae, Mākaha, Kea‘au, Makua). “By providing our keiki and their caregivers with an opportunity to receive a quality early education, Partners in Development Foundation’s Ka Pa’alana Traveling Preschool is preparing our keiki to be successful members of their communities,” Councilmember Pine added.

The Ka Pa‘alana Traveling Preschool and Homeless Family Education Program serves homeless families on O‘ahu’s Leeward coast. It is a Family Child Interactive Learning (FCIL) preschool, which parents are active in their child’s learning. Ka Pa’alana is the first and only preschool in the nation serving the homeless population to be accredited by the National Association for Education of Young Children, the nation’s leading organization of early childhood education professionals.

“We’re very privileged to be a part of the leeward coast community and are privileged to be a part of what is hopefully the solution to finding paths of success for our children and families,” said Jan E. Hanohano Dill, President of Partners in Development Foundation. “Incorporating Hawaiian culture and values as a structure to teach skills sets to our children and families so that they can have an opportunity to apply these wonderful and timeless Hawaiian values as they grow in their communities,” Hanohano Dill added.

The Ka Pa‘alana Traveling Preschool is a core program of Partners in Development Foundation. Partners in Development Foundation creates and implements programs to address the needs of at-risk groups within the Hawaiian community, such as preschool children, their caregivers, and economically depressed neighborhoods while drawing upon ancient Hawaiian cultural traditions. Ka Pa‘alana serves 700 young children from ages 0-5 and roughly 900 parents/caregivers annually.

Jan E. Hanohano Dill founded the Partners in Development Foundation in 1997 and has served as President and Chairman of the Board since January 12, 2001. He has also been the President of Strategic Solutions, Inc., an education and community outreach consulting company, since 1997.
