Ka Hana No‘eau teaches traditional craftsmanship to the youth of Kama‘ehu August 3, 2010

On July 30, 2010, the students of Kama‘ehu got a surprise visit from Ka Hana No‘eau. Uncle David Fuertes of Kohala on the big island of Hawai‘i brought down a team of ten members to teach and educate the students of Kama‘ehu about the craftsmanship involved in assembling and decorating a cowhide leather belt.

The team from Ka Hana No‘eau explained to the students how the cowhide is processed, cut and trimmed, and embossed so their pieces could be personalized. The students were ecstatic to find out that they would each be designing a belt to take home. Each student was measured carefully and allowed to choose a design so they could personalize their hand crafted item. At the end of the day you could see how proud they were of their creation.

Mahalo to Uncle David and the team from Ka Hana No‘eau for sharing their knowledge and craftsmanship with our youth!
