Congratulations to Honoka’a Hawaiian Saddle Maker!!!
Ka Hana Noeau Honoka’a Saddle making mentee Cody James Baptista honored by receiving the rank of Eagle, which is the highest recognition of boy scouting. It is earned through an advancement program, requiring a scout to earn merit badges, attain ranks, and participate community service projects. Only 4 % of boys who begin in scouting ever achieve this honor.
Cody’s Eagle Scout project was to build, sand, primer, and paint 2 tables for the North Hawaii Education and Research Center. The tables are used by members of the community that comes to the research center. He also removed tree debris in the same area to prevent accidents in a hazardous roadway.
When asked to give a service pin to the person that has influenced him the most, he called up Bronson H. Fuertes Sr., who is presently his saddle making mentor. Bronson taught Cody Hawaiian Saddle making for the past 3 years at Honokaa High Ag. Department every Friday after school.
Congratulations to Cody and Bronson.
