The ‘Ike Ea Program continued its goal of teaching Engineering and Electronics on the second half of 2009-2010 school year at the following schools: Maunawili Elementary in Kailua, Ka ‘Umeke Ka’eo Hawaiian Immersion Public Charter School and Laupahoehoe Elementary, both in Hilo. Classes started as soon as students came back from winter break, and are on-going until the start of spring break. Daily hands-on activities such as, popsicle stick bridge building with a 50 lbs. load test, egg drop, circuits and model house wiring, helped reinforce the concepts learned during the lecture part of the course. A total of five classes with 112 students participated in the program. Students were recognized with their efforts with a certificate and goody bags. The team is currently teaching the 5th grade class at Blanche Pope Elementary in Waimanalo.
