‘ike | To see, to know, knowledge, enlightenment, to recognize, to understand
‘ike literally means to see. When our kūpuna referred to the word ‘ike, it went deeper than just the literal translation. It was to see the truth, to know the inner most thoughts. It was the ability to understand, that which was being taught or shared. It was the ability to see, feel, and know the absolute truth with your entire being, from your na’au (gut).
The following phrases are summed up by this one Hawaiian word, ‘ike.
“I see your point”
“I hear what you are saying”
“I totally understand”
“I feel you”
“I get it”
