Hard work and preparation pay off for parents seeking a better future November 3, 2014

On September 16, 2014, 33 Ka Pa‘alana preschool parents attended the Job Fair at the Neal Blaisdell Center. In the weeks prior Ka Pa‘alana Parent Educators and Home Visitors helped parents prepare and print resumes, coached them in interviewing skills, and helped them obtain appropriate attire for the event.

Securing employment is high on the list of goals for Ka Pa‘alana parents, and the program prepares and guides parents through this process three times a year. Preparation beforehand is key as employers quickly dismiss applicants who do not present themselves well, but the hard work of Ka Pa‘alana staff and parents paid off: 14 parents got jobs, and 2 parents decided to go back to school. Sixteen parents turned a corner toward a better future for themselves and their families; courageous steps worth celebrating.
