Happy families receive beds donated from Costco and prepare for school March 14, 2017
On Tuesday, February 14, 2017, three of our preschool families from Next Step Shelter moved into the recently renovated low income apartment building on Beretania Street. Despite having no furniture and very few belongings, the families were very happy to have new homes to call their own. And thanks to the generosity of Costco Hawaii Kai, Ka Pa‘alana staff delivered beds, toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo, cleaning supplies, toothpaste, and laundry detergent. In the coming weeks, Ka Pa‘alana will follow up with home visits, parent and adult education, job preparation, assistance enrolling their children in school and Head Start, and assisting with an application to Community Clearing House so that the families can obtain the rest of the household items they need at no cost.
