Elders Are First Teachers For Children March 9, 2016

By Rev. Michael O. Christensen
Pastor and Teacher at Hanapepe United Church of Christ

Since 2001, Tutu and Me Traveling Preschool has been teaching caregivers how to help meet the developmental needs of the children in their care. The program integrates Hawaiian culture and values through songs, stories, learning activity centers, excursions, and talks with tutu. Children experience the excitement of discovery while interacting with other children and receiving aloha and support from that special first teacher in their young lives.

There are four host sites on Kaui for the traveling preschool, and Hanapepe United Church of Christ is delighted to be one of them. The kitchen crew smiles more and hums along with the songs on Thursdays when the keiki are present. Congratulations to Diane, Michelle, Momi and Nohea, the hardworking teaching team for the west side.

Tutu and Me is sponsored by Partners In Development Foundation and funded by the U.S. Department of Education and Kamehameha Schools.
