Earth Day in Kauai September 8, 2009
Tūtū and Me Traveling Preschool East Kaua‘i team held a beach clean up at Nukoli‘i Beach on Earth Day. We encouraged our families to attend and as a group we practiced the Hawaiian value of Mālama. The families from Kapa‘a and Anahola sites were dedicated in taking time out of their day to clean one of Kaua‘i’s dirtiest beaches. Twenty keiki and 25 caregivers participated. We hit the beach with gloves and bags and were able to clean up a truck load of trash including two car batteries. We remind our keiki and ‘ohana that when they go to the beach to always “Mālama the Sea, pick up three.” Throughout the year we teach keiki about the importance of Mālama ‘Aina. We are never too young to learn how to take care of the environment around us.
