E Pū Pa‘akai Kākou Ma Pai‘olu June 25, 2013

On June 5, 2013 the Kamehameha Schools Class of 1983 and the Community of Christ Church partnered with Ka Pa‘alana and Ke Kama Pono to serve hot lunches to the families at the Wai‘anae Boat Harbor and at the Pai‘olu Kaiāulu Homeless Shelter. Almost 200 people from both locations had an opportunity to enjoy the ‘ono food that was prepared and had an opportunity to kūkākūkā (Talk Story) with our volunteers and staff members.

Uncle Aaron Mahi coordinated the event and was responsible for uniting our organization with the two community groups for this service project. He labeled the event, “E Pū Pa‘akai Kākou Ma Pai‘olu” or “Let’s share a meal at Pai‘olu.” He went on to say, “Each food item may be different or may be the same; however all in all it is the recognition that we bring what we have, great or small to share with one another hence by this union we all become benefactors of our caring one to another – Mālama ke kahi i ke kahi.

The event was a great success and was enjoyed by all who were involved. The families that enjoyed the food felt blessed and were very thankful. We look forward to continuing our partnership with these two community groups as well as partnering with other community groups in the future to do similar events.
