Community helpers come alive during preschool April 16, 2015

The month of March was an exciting time for the families and keiki of Ka Pa‘alana. The monthly theme of Community Helpers came alive through various types of field trips and demonstrations.

The families from the Hale Wai Vista site participated in a walking field trip to Tamura’s Supermarket, where they learned about the different types of produce sold at the store and the role that grocery clerks fill in the community. The families were able to see a forklift being operated and a cashier ringing up the groceries that were bought for snack.

Families from Hawaiian Homelands Kaupuni Park and Hale Wai Vista were treated to a visit by The Emergency Medical Service of Hawai‘i. The EMTs talked to the families and keiki about their role in the community and how keiki could contact EMTs during an emergency. But the highlight of the day was a tour (inside and out) of the ambulance.

Mahalo to Tamura’s Community Liaison Angie, EMS Community Liaison Shane, and Paramedic Lauren for sharing their mana‘o and taking time out of their busy schedule to help bring our monthly theme to life.
