Billy Richards Receives Honoree Recognition April 14, 2014

On April 13, 2014, Partners In Development Foundation’s Director of Communications and Hawaiian canoeing legend, Billy Richards, was recognized as one of the 2014 honorees at The Waikīkī Community Center’s 29th Annual Duke Kahanamoku Beach Challenge. Each year, the Duke Kahanamoku Beach Challenge honors legends of Hawaii that have contributed to Hawaiian water culture. Richards is a living legend of Native Hawaiian canoeing and has played a major role in perpetuating the legacy of the voyaging canoe Hōkūle‘a. This year’s event took place at the Duke Kahanamoku Beach and Lagoon in Waikīkī, which featured canoe racing, ancient Hawaiian Makahiki games and beautiful cultural entertainment.
