AVID Students Create New Mentorship with Ka Hana No’eau November 15, 2010
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and its mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
In other words, AVID is a program that gives support to students like us, gets us into the right classes, and sends us off to college…PREPARED.
In our AVID class we focus on organization and on WICR, which stands for writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading. And WICR fits in perfectly with what our group is going to do with Ka Hana No’eau.
By the way, it was through Ka Hana No’eau that AVID was able to become a reality at Kohala High School in the first place.
Not only are most of us in an AVID class, but we are also members of Ka Hana No’eau’s newest mentorship group: Journalism. AVID’s emphasis on writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading is just the right fit for this. Our plan is to report on all the happenings at Ka Hana No’eau by visiting and participating with the other mentorship groups. We will keep the website updated with pictures, interviews, and articles so that everyone can see the amazing things we are doing.
We are very excited to be a part of Ka Hana No’eau.
