This is the second year that Tūtū and Me Hawaiʻi Kona has participated in the annual competition of “The Charity of Trees at Mauna Lani” at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows.  This program not only creates community awareness and partnership, but benefits the local non-profit organizations by highlighting their services, as well as raising some funds for their programs.  ‘For-profit’ organizations are also invited to participate, but are asked to designate a non-profit organization they’d like to donate to.

Tūtū and Me Hawaiʻi Kona decorated their Christmas tree, highlighting our Foundation core values as well as highlighting the Hawaiian proverb: ‘a ‘ohe hana nui ke alu ‘ia (no task is too big when done together by all).  Photos of our precious keiki were attached to kalo leaves, representing our Partners in Development Foundation logo.  Keiki from both program sites linked brown paper chains together, which represented the roots that are our Tūtū and Me ‘ohana.  With support, caregivers wrote names and inspirational messages on the chain links.  The book, My Kalo Has Lau, Big and Green, was also an inspiration for the Hawaiʻi Kona team.

The decorated Christmas trees will be judged by community members, hotel guests, visitors, employees, friends and family, for their favorite Christmas tree.  Trees will be on display in the hotel lobby from December 8th through December 28th and competition winners will be announced on December 22nd.  If Hawaiʻi Kona is awarded a monetary prize, it will be donated to Partners in Development Foundation.

Tūtū and Me Hawaiʻi Kona wishes all a Mele Kalikimaka and Hauʻoli Makahiki Hou!!!
